Alright dude, as someone who taught you to not throw orange peels on the trails but who now ashamedly consumes at least 246.41+ hectares of the earth's energy in a completely unsustainable way, I feel compelled to make a small donation as I live vicariously green through your blog. So there it is. Just promise that if you don't make enough to travel to Big Sur that you don't use this "donation" to simply "inspire" another review of Pinapple Express. Jon's already said it all.

So I took this little quiz and, as I told you, I learned that it would take 3.47 earths to support my habits. But I didn’t find this depressed me or inspired me to be better. It shocked me a little to realize that my efforts have so little impact and made me feel that the cause is futile. Oddly, though, you seemed COMMITTED to lowering your “earth requirement” even more.

I take the challenge, then. I want to see how this ecological footprint does for me.

Plan to plant the sage in the fall when the rain comes. Next year you will see the flowers. Worth waiting for.

It's a tricky issue. Cement production has gotten much better over the years and there are things like fly ash, a waste product, that can be added to it to make its production a bit more benign. But it still requires a ridiculous amount of energy to make and transport ,and both the making and transportation emit a tremendous amount of carbon dioxide. Cement is a wonderful product that can be used to perform functions no other material could do like making footers. My problem with it is its overuse. For example, concrete parking lots and sidewalks. Couldn't we use a better, less harmful, material like gravel in these situations? I don't expect or want cement to be outlawed. I just want people to know how harmful it is and to start thinking about other options.
