Where I Get My Clay

Clay Pit
People are always asking where I get the clay that I use to make cob.

The answer: From a pit I dug in my backyard.

The cost: Free.

The long-term goal: To transform the pit into a pond, complete with a “creek” circling my oak tree and, ideally, some fish and ducks to inhabit it.

hey, what are all those white things splattered around near that circular object? they look like they could be transformed into something really neat-o.

Those would be snail shells. Several months ago, a local artist picked up all the shells in my yard and placed them inside that metal hoop, forming a “snail garden,” but the rains, or perhaps my son, destroyed it. Nothing lasts forever….
